What are the signs and symptoms of Anabolic Steroid abuse?

Steroids aka anabolic steroids, aka anabolic-androgenic steroids, aka AAS, aka Juice, are a naturally produced hormone in the bodies of mammals, including humans. Synthetic steroids are basically synthetic testosterone. Steroids have multiple medical uses. A common one is prednisone, which is used to manage inflammation and arrest allergic reactions, steroids also are used to treat muscle wasting from cancer or AIDS, and induction of puberty in boys who are delayed in the onset of puberty. They are used by athletes to speed recovery time between weight training sessions. This maximizes muscle growth and development beyond what most men can gain from natural methods of body building. Women who use steroids will also experience increased muscle mass, but will also suffer masculinization. Most anabolic steroids are diverted from veterinary medicine.

Description of the Steroid drugs

Anabolic steroids are typically a colorless liquid contained in ampules or small bottles for injection, or in a pill form which varies by type, does and manufacturer.

How anabolic Steroids are used?

Anabolic steroids are taken by IM (intramuscular injection) they are injected into a large muscle, such as the deltoids or gluteal, and are slowly absorbed through the small blood vessels in muscle tissue. Steroids can be taken orally, but the effect will not be as pronounced or rapid.

What are the effects of anabolic Steroids on the user?

When combined with weightlifting, increases in muscle mass can occur very quickly. The user will have more energy and motivation to piower through an intense workout. Due to the anti-inflammatory effects of steroids, minor or even severe injuries may not be felt and prevent training. There are OTC products which are advertised as having anabolic properties, but the science behind most of them is weak.

Short-term and long-term risks of using anabolic Steroids

Unsupervised medical use of anabolic steroids is not safe. There will be multiple physical complications, and psychological effects, including:

  • Oily skin and acne
  • Hypertrichosis (excessive growth of body hair)
  • Scalp hair loss
  • Fluid retention
  • ED (Erectile dysfunction)
  • Gynecomastia (breast growth, e.g., Bitch tits)
  • Testicular atrophy
  • Enlargement of the prostate
  • Prostate cancer

In women

  • Masculinization, including:
    • Irreversible deepening of the voice
    • Hirsutism ( growth of facial and body hair
    • Loss of menstruation
    • Enlarged clitoris
    • Breast atrophy

The use of anabolic steroids is very high risk. Natural training methods are best. This refers to heavy lifting with proper form, a clean diet conducive to energy, muscle recovery and growth, and sleep and rest to maximize recovery and muscle growth. We are all limited by our genetics as to how large and strong we can grow. However, with hard work, proper training, and persistence, any man can develop impressive musculature compared to their pre-training physique, or compared to other men in their age group who are untrained. For that matter, older men who train will be stronger, have more endurance and a more aesthetic appearance than some men half their age. Women also benefit from weight training, and have genetic advantages at developing lower body muscle, but few women produce enough testosterone or have other genetic features which will enable them to gain the upper body muscles of men.

The benefits of weight training are numerous, from increased muscle size and strength, increased bone density, increased tendon and ligament strength, resistance to injury, more attractiveness, clothes fitting better, reduced risk of heart disease, diabetes, and certain cancers, and musculoskeletal disorder such as arthritis, to an appearance and capability which deters aggression from others, to enhanced self-image and confidence. To harm your body by abusing anabolics in an effort to attain something not physically possible is the antitheses of good health.
