FBI docs unfold disturbing details about Sandy Hook shooter Adam Lanza

1,500 documents were released by the FBI on Tuesday, revealing the dark sides of Adam Lanza - author of one of the deadliest school shootings in the US. Adam Lanza, a 20-year-old young man, who had earlier killed his mother, attacked the Sandy Hook elementary school on Dec. 14, 2012, in Newtown, Connecticut, shooting 20 children and 6 adults to death. Then he took his own life right after the killings.

The FBI interviewed an unidentified woman who had online communications with Adam Lanza before the shootings. The woman described Adam Lanza as “the weirdest person online”, who spent a lot of internet time to research on mass killings. Though extremely intelligent, Adam Lanza had a very negative understanding of the world and may have had an odd interest in children, according to the documents.

The witness also focuses on the deep depression and the isolated way of life Adam Lanza had. Moreover, the investigations have shown that he had a very tense relationship with his mother prior to the killings, which could have increased his stress level immensely. Another document puts forward the possible impact of the Hurricane Sandy, invading the northeast coastline weeks before the Sandy Hook murders. Adam was “weirded out” after the Hurricane and refused to go to a hotel. Instead, he preferred to stay in the house spending days with no electricity, as stated in the pages.

Mass murder refers to murdering 4 or more people during a very short period of time in a single location. According to the FBI arrest records, the peak age for this crime is 16-24. This is a crucial period in an individual’s life and they are more vulnerable to violent crime at this age since they generally have no serious attachments that could serve as deterrents. As for Adam Lanza, we should allow time for professional analysis. But generally speaking, most of the mass killers have suffered some kind of chronic depression or other mental illnesses. One of the characteristic features of these people is blaming everyone but themselves for their own failures - loss of a relationship, of a job, etc. And, they are seeking for means to take revenge on the public.

This can explain the motives of a mass murderer but never predict a potential killer. Many people suffer from depression but never commit a single crime, others prefer to release violence.
