An Arkansas couple was arrested after a 1-year-old was discovered dead inside a plastic container in their closet. The victim’s mother, Maria Giron-Molina, and her boyfriend, Tyler Hobbs, were taken into custody related to the child’s death. Tyler Hobbs, 21, was arrested on suspicion of a first-degree murder and abuse of a corpse, while Maria Giron-Molina, also 21, only for abuse of a corpse, as stated in police records.
Interestingly, Tyler Hobbs had called the police himself, declaring that the baby fell down the stairs and began seizing “a few days ago.” He said that he tried to revive the child with the help of CPR, but failed, adding he was scared and confused. In fact, when the police officers arrived, they found the baby breathless and decomposed in a container covered with blankets and stored in the closet of the couple’s bedroom. Chief Tabor described the child’s body being in an “advanced state of decomposition.”
Further on, during the interview at the police station, the couple’s explanations didn’t match, and Tyler Hobbs finally told the whole story. He admitted that he had covered the 1-year-old’s mouth with his hand in order to stop the baby crying since he had a headache. He also confessed shaking the child back-and-forth when the boy didn’t obey and started hitting and scratching him. Then, he “blacked out.” The child was breathing no longer when he “came to,” he told the police.
According to investigation, Tyler Hobbs was under marijuana when the baby passed away. “He expressed remorse for his actions, and he said he did not intend to harm the child,” deputies say.
