Texas police identified the 37-year-old mother who fatally shot her husband and their two young sons before turning the gun on herself.
Flor de Maria Pineda, 37, murdered her husband Mauricio Morales, 39 and their two young sons, ages 10 and 5, at a ritzy beachfront hotel in Galveston, Texas. Galveston Police Capt. Josh Schirard says hotel guests reported hearing gunshot sounds coming from the neighboring room on the eighth floor of the 4-star San Luis Resort, Spa and Conference center at around 4:30 a.m. on Monday. Schirard believes Pineda murdered her husband and sons while they were quietly asleep in their beds.
Police appeared on the scene at night. The officers broke into the locked room when they heard slight moaning. Once inside, the officers found Morales and his two sons with numerous gunshot wounds and bleeding to death. The husband and one of the boys were announced dead, while Pineda and her one son were alive but in a critical situation. They were transported to University of Texas Medical Branch, where they both later died.
According to the police, the case is considered a suicide-murder based on physical evidence at the scene. The results of the investigation show that the mother opened fire on her family from a 9mm handgun found adjacent to her body. Police is not searching for any other suspects.
The victims were Hispanic and they were taking residence in Baytown, Texas. The family checked in at the San Luis Resort at about 7:00 p.m on Sunday.
