A Pennsylvania woman was accused of allegedly attacking her husband with a hatchet in their bed in 2017. The case later ended with the husband’s death.
According to Armstrong County Jail records, Melanie Snyder was charged with criminal homicide on Tuesday in addition to earlier charges of aggravated assault, reckless endangerment, and child endangerment.
Early in the morning on July 27, the couple’s 17-year-old daughter called 911. When the police arrived at the family’s Manor Township house, they noticed Snyder walking in the street in front of the home. Her clothes were covered in blood stains and she showed “little emotion.” The three children had left the neighbor’s house. When entering the house, police officers discovered Thomas Snyder in a pool of his own blood, laying on the bed.
Snyder was taken to Pittsburg hospital where he died five months later suffering from numerous head and neck injuries. He was diagnosed to have pneumonia caused by a trauma to his brain gained in the alleged attack.
Snyder’s three children were witnesses of the assault. They not only called the police but the oldest one of them also allegedly took the weapon away from their mother.
The police are not revealing the motive, saying it will be revealed during the trial. The officials say they never received any past warning calls from the couple’s home.
Melanie Snyder is held in Armstrong County jail on a $500,000 bail, waiting for the next court hearing in February. It is still unclear as to who will be representing her in court.
