Man kills his girlfriend, then stabs his parents at a family party

A 24-year-old man from Massachusetts was arrested for murdering his 20-year-old girlfriend before going to a party in suburban Boston. A few hours later when he arrived at the family birthday party, he also stabbed both of his parents in the stomach with a knife.

Benjamin Walsh is charged with murder and is in custody as the main suspect in the murder of Olivia Bergstrom. Millis Police arrested Walsh after he allegedly stabbed his parents at the Primavera restaurant Saturday night. The witnesses told police that when Walsh entered the restaurant hall with a knife, he started yelling “I want to kill you. I want to kill everyone.” The relatives subdued him, tied his hands, and called 911. When police officers started the investigation, they found Bergstrom’s stabbed body behind the door of  Walsh’s apartment.

Walsh’s parents were taken to a hospital and they are expected to recover soon. Investigators believe that the two attacks are connected to each other. A knife has been recovered that detectives say was used in both crimes. According to the police report, Walsh had no criminal past and he might have been under influence of drugs or alcohol. However, defense attorney Randall Power indicated that Walsh also had mental issues.

Walsh pleaded not guilty to the charges. It is still unclear if he will hire an attorney to speak on his behalf. He is being held without bond and will soon appear in Dedham district court.

Olivia’s grandfather spoke to People saying that their family was devastated. He remembered Olivia as a smart, vibrant and beautiful young woman with a bright future ahead of her. She was passionate about living a healthy life and she loved her family profoundly.
