Scott Kologi, a 16-year-old autistic teen, shot his family dead in their Jersey Shore home on New Year’s Eve.
The family, including parents, 44-year-old Steven Kologi and 42-year-old Linda Kologi, as well as the sister of the shooter, 18-year-old Brittany Kologi, were staying at the mentioned house together with their family friend, 70-year-old Mary Schultz, who was also found dead.
The brother and the grandfather were also at home at the time but managed to escape the scene without any harm. The teen was later arrested without further complications. The semi-automatic rifle which he used for the homicides belonged to one of the residents and was seized by the police.
In fact, the neighbors and friends of the family all told the news that Scott was a very nice boy, without any inclination to violence. A local resident and friend of the father, 52-year-old Joey Rios described Scott as “the nicest kid in the world.”
Rios continued saying, “This is not something I ever thought this young boy would do. I don’t know what happened. He was not a violent kid. He was always smiling.”
Although it is yet unknown what pushed the teen to commit multiple homicides, the case is being treated as a domestic violence incident. The authorities state that it does not pose any risks to the public.
Scott’s elder brother Steve Kologi Jr. shared an emotional post on social media following the incident. He urged everyone “to give the ones you love an extra kiss or I love you” and went on describing his parents as “the greatest parents I could ask for.”
He added, “Never once was I without a hot meal or a roof over my head.”
The teen was arrested and charged with four counts of murder, as well as weapons offense.
