Michael Hoskinson, 53, principal of Coleman Middle School, and his wife, Kimberly, 49, a Plant High School assistant teacher, are both facing charges of child abuse, reported by Tampa Police.
According to statements, the principal yelled at and punched a child in the rib cage twice during a heated argument, as a result of which the wrist of the victim was injured. Two of the victim’s classmates were present during this incident.
A few days after the argument, Kimberly Hoskinson texted the victim the following message, "Friendly Reminder: If we ever find a text similar to the one you sent Coach [last name redacted] a few months ago about ‘needing to talk,’ or to whoever else, you’ll end up with a lot more than a few bruised ribs."
Based on the reports, the child in question is not a student at any of the schools the Hoskinsons are employed by. At this point, the relationship between the attackers and the victim is unknown. The local community has expressed their concerns, stating that there have never been prior complaints regarding the Hoskinsons’ behavior and that the safety of the students is a priority for all of them.
According to Plant High School, the incident didn’t take place on the territory of the school, however, the investigation on this case continues. In the meantime, both schools are handling the situation by working with the parents and the students of both schools.
The Florida couple was arrested on Monday and were charged with a third-degree felony, child abuse without great bodily harm. Today, Michael Hoskinson’s bail was set at $7,500 and another $2,000 for his wife.
The investigation is still in process, and more details are to be revealed on the story.
