The Carolina Panthers’ quarterback Cam Newton made a special Instagram post on November 21, ‘celebrating’ the anniversary of his arrest, or more precisely, the success he’s earned since that day.
9 years ago on this day, Newton was arrested for stealing a laptop, while he was a student at the University of Florida. The felony charges of burglary, larceny and obstructing justice were dropped when Newton completed a pretrial diversion program, after which he moved to Binn College in Texas and subsequently to Auburn University.
Written with his own unique type-style, Cam shares the following:
“I contemplated posting this and even reluctant about it, but as I think about my life and the MANY things I'm THANKFUL for, I want to be an OPEN book so people can here my testimony and learn from the FLAWS and mistakes I MADE!"
"On this day 11/21/2008 I was arrested for a stolen laptop and I'm sure your asking yourself where is he going with this story."
Newton goes on saying that on the day of his arrest he thought his life and career were over, but he's made a promise to himself to improve and that's what brought him to the success he enjoys now.
"What you must learn from this story is this: If you live your life listening to what OTHER people are saying what you should do AND NOT YOUR OWN, shame on YOU!"
"... so if I can do it with my circumstances surely you can do it and be WHATEVER YOU WANT TO BE with HARD WORK and PERSISTENCE!” Read full post
Newton encourages young people like him not to be broken by circumstances, but instead make their own decision and work hard to become the person THEY want to be. An inspiring story, indeed.
